Pendo Karate was founded in 1993 by Sensei Al Gargiulo. We have been located in Epic Gymnastics in Manasquan since the beginning.
Students are taught two primary forms of Martial Arts: Tang Soo Do and Isshin Fu Kung Fu.
Adult students are taught the aforementioned, with the addition of Tai Chi Chuan and Wing Chun.
Pendo Karate uses the following belt progression system: White, Blue (Kinder Karate students only), Yellow, Orange, Green, Purple, Brown, Senior Brown, Black.
Yes, student enrollment is accepted at anytime of the year – any session.
Yes, students are allowed a free trial class to see if they enjoy it and to give parents a chance to understand more about our program.
Students are assigned their class level according to age and skill levels and are required to attend their registered day/time class. Classes are broken into 10-Week Sessions.
Students are allowed 2 make-up classes per session and must be scheduled at the front desk.
Kinder Karate students are presented with promotions during scheduled stripe and belt tests, in class, throughout the year – as scheduled by the Head Instructor. Blue Belts are rewarded to all Kinder Students who learn the required material for the Kinder Karate Program.
Intermediate and Advanced Students will earn stripes in class upon the Head Instructor’s evaluation. Students are evaluated regularly by their instructors using a skill evaluation rubric to ensure consistent progress in learning all material. Skill objectives are given upon request.
A maximum of 4 stripes may be rewarded to each student per belt before receiving a belt test invitation. An invitation will be presented to students who learn all necessary information for their current belt.
Individual pre-tests are required to ensure each student is fully prepared for his/her belt test.
Scheduled belts tests are held on Saturday evenings where family and friends are welcome to observe.
All of our students are encouraged to practice good health and exercise at home. Pendo Karate has recored the Kata required for each student on this page. We advise parents watch with their children to be sure that there is no confusion while practicing.
Sparring is an exercise in which two students practice martial art maneuvers and drills with one another. For safety and hygiene, in the Dojo, sparring gear and martial arts shoes are required. Students perform the exercise as directed by their instructor with light contact.
